so, Chris is kind of an idiot. after he slept, he drank a beer. hes hungover, and he doesn't need to get more sick. i think chris likes the animal. for him, its a way to get away from everything. he has so many things that he need to worry about, like his future, his job, and his jerk of a roommate in todd. he loves the animal, so he can get high and get drunk. evan admires him, but evan is actually the much better person. Evan is responsible and can think for himself. i'm not saying chris is mean, he was kind to the watcher, but evan should be admiring himself. what do you think? john
John, I think that Chris sees himself in the watcher’s eyes. He is trapped inside his own body. He protects himself by pretending not to care and pretending to be stupid. I think that he used to care once, but his father was so caught up in Michael’s death that he couldn’t be there for Chris. Chris slowly tod himself that he didn’t care until finally he believed it. That made it easier for him to cope with the truth because he never had to deal with it. Deep down though, he does care. You can tell because that letter tears him up so much. Also he was starting to care again, but that letter made him not care, again.
becca, chris thinks that his dad likes michael better, which is probably true, chris thinks he can put up an stone front and not feel any pain. that ties into what we've been learning in rcg. what about todd? i hate him, but since craig stopped and didnt take money, i can forgive him
I agree with you that Chris uses the party to make him forget about all of those things, but I do not think that he likes that part of himself. In fact, I think he despises that part of himself. He can’t help it though, he was starting to change, and I was very happy about that, then STUPID TODD went and brought up some part of Chris that he wants to forget. So, in order to forget, he goes to the party. I think that Evan is getting better. His self confidence is rising, before he was too nervous to wear the sun glasses. I think that when Evan’s parents are stable he become more confident. Personally, I don’t think he should be admiring himself but I do think that he could use some self confidence. -Becca
John, I think that Chris’s dad wants to love him but he is still caught up in the death of his son. He was a great father to Micheal. I don’t think either of us could possible know what it feels like to lose a child and feel like it was our fault. It is something he never recovered from. I think that Chris was putting up a cold front because he thought if he pretended to feel nothing then he woudn’t have to feel anything and that is was slowly started to happen. Would you agree? I think that Craig is a stand-up guy and a good friend to Chris. I think it would be hard to argue that Todd is a nice guy… I think that we are set up to judge him. We don’t know why he is like that. There could be some horrible thing that happened to him when he was a kid. Why do you think he is so horrid? -Becca
becca i am a firm believer in admiring yourself, as you might know. evan needs to be thinking, "hey, i love my sis, girls like me, and i feel free to act different." he has a lot going for him, so he needs to be confident. Todd is chris divided by about 100. he's a slob, takes money, and has no respect. he loves the animal. chris hates it, but needs it. its like a drug.
I think that as people we tend to judge our selves harshly. I do think that Evan wearing the sunglasses is a sign that he is feeling more confident, before he would have been too scared. I think that Chris talked to the watcher because he saw himself in her and maybe he had wished that someone would have talked to him and made him feel better. We can tell from the italicized part that it made a big impact on the watcher. It made her feel so much better.
becca, i think the real villain with chris's problems is his father. sure, he had a hard time getting over the death of his firstborn. anyone would. but how he treats and treated chris like some foster kid he didn't want. like someone said in discussion, "every evil person came from a bad childhood. i'm not saying that chris is the next hitler or is going to be evil, but that having a bad childhood will make your life more depressing. that is the illness chris is slowly sinking into. depression. and if he doesnt release the person inside, like the watcher, bad things will happen.

P.s. I do not think that Chris is an idiot. I think he could be smart if he so desired. It is part of his front to protect him from caring.
