I thought it was very interesting how hat when Chris finally talked to the watcher, she just ignored him. It seems like she might has autism or something along those line. I wonder if we will here from the watcher’s perspective again in the story. I think the writer is doing a good job showing us the watchers personality without showing her perspective. What do you think?
Why do you think Chris lent Todd money, it seems that he hates Todd. What did you think when he started reading the letter. I thought that it was a note from his father to him. Do you think Chris’s father would have been a better father is Michael had not died? Do you think it was irresponsible to leave a child of four years of age unsupervised?
Hello! One thing I thought was a little weird was the fact that Jenny referred to God as a she. I have only ever heard God referred as a he. Did you think that was significant? I really liked how Chris was watching Evan reading and that inspired him to read. We finally see that not only does Evan want to be like Chris, but Chris wants to be a bit like Evan and realizes that reading on the beach by yourself doesn't mean you are a loser. It was interesting to me that Chris got a kick out of Evan wearing the same sunglasses as him. At first, I thought it meant that Chris liked the fact he had followers and felt popular, but then I realized he might of gotten kick out of it because he wondered, why would anyone want to be like me? Maybe he got a kick out of it because he was amused that anyone admired him. Even from the previous chapter with chris narrated, I stil thought Chris' life was good compared to the other characters. But now, we finally got to see a deeper side of him.
I definetly think that there is something off with the Watcher. She seems very scared of human interaction, maybe because she imagines so many things in her head, she doesn't know what's real anymore. She ignored Chris in real life, but she responded to Chris or the angel in her fantasy writing. I definitely think that if Michael hadn't died, or hadn't died due to the irresponsibility of his father, his father would be a better father. It was really sad that in the letter, the father said he would never love anyone like he loved Michael. I think every time he looks at Chris, it reminds him of his older son, Michael. At first, I thought the letter was a letter from Chris to Michael, but then I realized it wasn't. Now, it makes a bit more sense when Chris' dad said when Chris asked if Highschool was the best of his life or something like that, "It's not that I don;t love you and your mother," I think the rest of the line he was about to say would've been, "It's that I can never forget Michael." Or something like that. Also,it devastated me that Chris went to the party anyway! I was angry, because before he decided he shouldn't. Why do you think he went?
Yes I agree. I almost skipped over it at first, but I notice that jenny called god a she. I don’t know if it is significant or if it is the just the author trying to develop jenny as a character. Showing she is a feminist.i think that the sunglasses thing is partly Chris wondering why anyone would want to be like h partly because he is popular. I think that Chris wants to be smart, but thinks he can’t because he is stupid. I think he doesn’t want to be a party animal and sort of admires jenny for going to college. Wht do you think?
I definitely think that Chris doesn't want to be a party animal, but is sucked into it by peer pressure. He wants to go to college, but it's almost like he doesn't believe he's smart enough. Chris definitely doesn't always understand himself. Like why he's thinking certain things.i think when Chris doesn't understand himself, he thinks he's stupid for not understanding himself, when really, Chris is just a complicated person. He always feels guilty for what he's thinking. I can relate. Can you? I think the Watcher will come back into the book, hopefully not in the italisized part, but in an actual chapter where we can see what is going on with her in reality. But I can see why the author wouldn't bring her back, because they want us to piece it together ourselves. What do you think will happen next? What do you think about the beast and the doll. I think they are her parents, but maybe she wished they weren't, or something like that.
I think he went because of all the peer pressure from his house mates. It made me upset to because he wants to be smart and the first step is reading the book. I think he book is the symbol for his work ethic. I think he is used to getting things in life with out having to do much for them. I think if he follows his dream and goes to Malibu he will be in the same situation he is in now. He won’t know what to do for the rest of his life
I agree. I don't think there is any use in going to Malibu. I just think going to MAlibu is another form of Chris wanting to run away. What did you think about the fire in both Chris and the WAtchers eyes and someone wanting to get out inside? I agree, I think he does things mainly because of peer pressure. It's funny because he goes against his parents pressures so much, like wanting to go to college and getting a job, but he follows his so called "friends" by going to parties and getting drunk and high. But I guess most people go with their friends pressures compared to following their parents pressures. Do you think you are more affected by peer pressure or parent pressure? Like who do you actually listen to?
I think the enchanted doll is the mother is pretty much controlled by the father, who is the beast. I think the watcher will come back too. I don’t think the author is doing that great a job explaining things in the italicized part. I would much rather get some more of the story from the perspective of the watcher. I think I can also relate to how Chris is feeling.
I agree with you that the fact that the doll is enchanted means it is being controlled by the beast. i also really want to find out things mores straight forward, like what is actually going on with the Watcher!? But, think about it, if we actually found out right away, there would be no use in reading the rest of it. I think it makes the book a lot more suspensful this way. I thought that the fire in their eyes was like they both wanted to escape and get out of who they were. Like they wanted to be someone else.
I think the fire in the watchers eyes is person that wants to be social and wants to have friends, but I think the watcher is not ready for that so she bottles up her feelings inside her. I think she is a little crazy for thinking she is invisible. I think the fire in chris’s eyes is the thing inside him that wants to be a smart college student and not waste him life. I think I am most affected by peer pressure.
