Sarah & Alexander

  1. Alexander- I feel like no one in this book see’s anyone else on the inside. You would think they would, but everyone thinks Chris is a cool savior, the watcher is a freak, and Evan’s family is together and perfect. It is interesting to me how they judge each other and think they are one way. What do you think? I also think Chris at first saw that the watcher wasn’t as horrible as everyone else and the family wasn’t necessarily perfect. I think people think he was just being pessimistic, but I think he, of all people, can see on the inside. What do you think about Chris actually being empathetic?

  2. I think that at the point were chris was talking to her she was writing the part about the angel talking to her. But in the italicized part she actually talks to the angel. But in the real part she doesn’t say anything to Chris. If she really wanted to talk to chris it seemed like that would b the right time since he was the one who actually started the conversation. It just seems weird that she doesn’t say anything because she was obsessing about him in her I thought it interesting that the watcher seems to write in her book about what she wants herself to do. chapter

  4. Alexander - I agree- I think maybe she was writing about him and I don’t know why she didn’t speak back. Some people say the italicized part doesn’t connect with real life, but I think it does and it goes along together. I have three theories about why she didn’t talk to Chris. The first one is, like you said, that she was writing about him and it was so interesting how they connected. Also, because no one really likes her so far, I think she was in awe that someone like him, someone so seemingly cool and popular, would speak to her. It really goes in line with the whole judging thing because she thinks he is this amazing guy who recues people, when really he has just as many problems. Why do you think she was so weird? Another big clue (or maybe it’s not a clue) is that when it says: “What he wasn’t prepared for were her eyes. It was like they were screaming, like they were burning up on fire, and somebody was behind them, inside there, screaming to get out.” I think this is a very intense, pretty description for Chris because his sections are usually less meaningful and nicely written. Also, this part kind of confused me. Who do you think is “inside” the watcher? Then later it says there is someone inside of Chris. I think this makes them connect and fell each other’s pain. It is very odd, yet very interesting.

  5. I think he was being empathetic. At first he was just making sure she was okay because that is his job so it is his instink. Then when she didn’t respond he realized something was kind of weird with her life. He is also realizing that he can relate to her. Especially when he looks in the mirror and sees the same look in his eyes that he saw in hers. I think at that point he decided he wanted to help her more. I think that in the future he is going to make more attempts to connect with her. Either that or he will crawl back into his shell and never talk to her again. I think that he will also connect more with Jenny. I also wondered why hearing the note his dad wrote affected him so much. He himself said that he didn’t care much about his brother since he never knew him. Maybe it was because he never saw his father being that affectionate for him. So he kept the note and pretended that it was to him. Exept for the part about him being dead.

  7. I agree that she probably didn’t talk to him because she was in awe that he would talk to her but it also could have been your last point which was that the part of her that wanted to talk to him was stuck inside of her. Maybe it was the part that he could see through her eyes.
